The goal of Prime Time’s technical assistance is to enhance
the quality of school-age afterschool programs throughout
Palm Beach County. As conveners of the Quality Improvement
System (QIS), Prime Time’s main focus is to support programs
as they move through the system. Our Quality Advisors work
on-site with providers to assess program needs and develop
multi-year plans for improvement. Quality Advisors provide
consultation on engaging and interacting with children and
youth in safe and supportive environments. They also
provide administrative referral and bring afterschool
programs together with appropriate community resources.
The Prime Time Afterschool Consortium is a network of afterschool
and summer program providers who join together to share best
practices in the afterschool field, learn about new policy
developments and advocacy activities, get information about
a variety of program and staff resources and network with
peers. The Consortium is open to all individuals engaged in
the afterschool arena. Activities include seminars and workshops
with experts in the field, networking opportunities and special events. Consortium members also have free access to
Prime Times Resource Center, which contains afterschool
curricula, literature and audio-visual materials. To

With a goal of providing varied and engaging experiences for
Palm Beach Countys young people, Prime Time partners
with local community organizations and individuals to offer
an array of program supports and enhancements at no cost to
the youth provider community. These include both long-term
and short-term program enhancements in the following fields:
- Arts and Culture
- Academics
- Sports and Recreation
- Career Explorations
- Health and Nutrition
Short-term curricula range from six to nine
sessions. These programs serve as an introduction to a particular
field or skill. Arts and Culture program enhancements are
delivered by our partner, the
Center for Creative
Education. The Sports And Recreation program
enhancements are delivered by the
YMCA of South Palm Beach County. Prime Time provides the equipment
from our Lending Library and pays for instructors or for provider
staff to be trained in delivery of the activity.
Enhancement programs are more intense, year-long components that
are provided to selected afterschool program sites and offered
by various community partners. These programs are integrated
into the regular afterschool program schedule and delivered
by a combination of the afterschool staff and experts provided
by the partnering agency.

While our community focused advocacy is a priority for Prime
Time, it is clear that local communities are impacted by state
and federal policy. In order to take a comprehensive approach
to advocacy, Prime Time supports the Florida Afterschool Alliance,
the statewide afterschool professional association, and the Afterschool
Alliance's national Challenge Event in Washington, D.C. each
spring. Through our coordination of Palm Beach County's annual
Discover Afterschool event, which brings attention for the need and
benefits of afterschool programs, Prime Time make a contribution
to the national awareness and advocacy agenda.
Training & Professional Development
Afterschool is quickly becoming an established professional
career, tied to national standards and local requirements.
To support this emerging field, Prime Time provides career
guidance and awards scholarships enabling school-age care
givers to take relevant classes at Palm Beach Community
College (PBCC) as well as attend approved professional
development classes, workshops and conferences. Prime Time
is working with PBCC to develop a fully articulated
curriculum leading to credit-bearing courses, credentials
and degrees for the afterschool professional.
Prime Time offers a variety of professional development and
quality assurance training programs and workshops at no cost
to afterschool providers. These trainings focus on topics
that relate directly to indicators of quality in afterschool
and reflect the current professional development needs in
the field.
